An illuminating project: aaline Architectural Lighting + Acoustics designs innovative lighting for Toronto Metropolitan University
aaline Architectural Lighting + Acoustics produced a series of bespoke lighting fixtures for Toronto Metropolitan University precisely to the requirements of the designers working on the project.

These custom fixtures featured aaline's ‘Linear Embedded’ system, a high-end system designed to provide even, balanced light distribution with focused illumination. In response to the client's requirements, the team customized the lighting solutions with high-end product options and premium finishes.

An integrated service, from design to installation
The project aimed to provide the university with a seamless integrated service, from the complete design of the fixtures to their installation as finished products. The lighting fixtures were installed in various strategic areas, such as study and meeting rooms, where appropriate and targeted lighting was essential.
For the team, the challenge was to create a harmonious and pleasant experience for all users - students, teachers and administrative staff. This meant developing lighting solutions that were aesthetically pleasing, technologically efficient and highly functional, while respecting the designers' guidelines. The aaline team rose brilliantly to this challenge by delivering lighting solutions perfectly adapted to the client's expectations.
Keen to build high-quality, long-lasting fixtures without compromising on looks, the team chose premium materials, including FENIX® innovative materials in the Nero Ingo (J0720) color. This material, renowned for its extremely matte, soft-touch and fingerprint-resistant surface, and its ability for thermal repair of micro-scratches, was the best choice for this project.

The FENIX® materials were precision-cut using a CNC machine before being applied to the sides of the light fixtures. This precision work produced a high-precision finish that looks elegant, while guaranteeing optimum resistance to wear and tear over time.
As an added touch, FSC-certified hardwood was incorporated into the light fixtures, and satin-finish black paint applied for a refined, understated look.
“As part of its eco-responsibility philosophy, aaline deals exclusively with like-minded partners and materials,” says Mani Mani, Managing Director at aaline Architectural Lighting + Acoustics. “Choosing FENIX® materials and FSC-certified hardwood is part of this approach, as it reduces the carbon footprint of each project, while maintaining high standards of quality and durability.”
aaline is proud of this project in which the use of bespoke lighting solutions helped create functional, welcoming and innovative spaces that benefit the students and staff at Toronto Metropolitan University.
