Reimagining FENIX

"Reimagining FENIX" is a visionary project that brings together interdisciplinary designers to explore the limitless possibilities of FENIX materials.

Through unique collaborations with artists and innovators, this project showcases how FENIX materials can transcend its traditional applications, transforming into extraordinary works of art. Each piece—whether in fashion, lighting, or industrial design—reflects a deep commitment to creativity, sustainability, and pushing the boundaries of material innovation.

This project is part of FANTASTICA, a collaboration platform by Formica Asia, dedicated to celebrating the creative visions of builders, designers, and innovators.

"Song of The Dancing Liquid Dress" by Stolen x FENIX

In a groundbreaking fusion of art and fashion, Elyn Wong, the visionary behind Stolen, redefines the boundaries of material and design with "Song of The Dancing Liquid Dress." This conceptual piece showcases the unexpected transformation of FENIX material, typically known for their soft touch and extremely matte surface, into a garment of extraordinary fluidity and grace.

Drawing inspiration from the versatile and dynamic nature of water, Wong skillfully manipulates FENIX's durable surface to create a texture that is both soft and elegant. The dress not only challenges perceptions of what these innovative materials can achieve but also highlights their potential to transcend traditional interior applications. "Song of The Dancing Liquid Dress" is a testament to the versatility and beauty of FENIX, inviting viewers to explore new dimensions in fashion and material innovation.

“Pivoting Interstices” by Light Collab x FENIX

With a deep understanding of the interplay between architecture and illumination, Yah Li Toh, co-founder of Light Collab, reimagines the relationship between light and material in this collaboration with FENIX. Known for its low light reflectivity and extremely matte qualities, FENIX becomes the centerpiece in an innovative installation that explores how light can interact with and enhance architectural materials. By skillfully manipulating the flip panels, Light Collab highlights the material’s ability to diffuse light without creating unwanted reflections, even when viewed from various angles.

This project presented challenges, particularly in designing the flip panels and hinges. The result is a visually compelling piece that underscores the importance of the unique properties of FENIX material in lighting design, inviting viewers to appreciate the subtle yet impactful role of non-reflective surfaces in creating harmonious environments.

“Balance” by Forest and Whale x FENIX

Rooted in a commitment to sustainability and mindful living, Gustavo Maggio, co-founder of Forest and Whale, blends design with social and environmental consciousness in the creation of "Balance." This innovative induction mobile charger transcends its function, encouraging users to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with their surroundings. Inspired by the ancient practice of stone stacking, the design symbolizes grounding oneself in the physical world.

Crafted with FENIX Thick in 12mm thickness, known for its strength, matte surface, and anti-fingerprint properties, the charger is both aesthetically pleasing and sustainable, reflecting the studio's commitment to environmentally friendly materials. The process involved meticulous testing to perfect the machining and finishing techniques, resulting in a product that is as intentional in its form as it is in its purpose. Through "Balance," Forest and Whale invites users to pause, reflect, and create meaningful moments in their daily lives.
